Projects for service to Prisoners: (1997)

Prison Ministry:  A team of religious men/women, diocesan clergy and laypersons manage the responsibilities of rendering service to prisoners, in varied ways. They undertake the following activities:

1. Visiting Prisons: With due permission of relevant authorities, the volunteers conduct regular inter-religious prayer services on National days and for other major festivals. Besides, providing counselling services, classes are conducted under NIOS and IGNOU wherein many who entered as illiterate have even graduated. Also training to acquire skills for livelihood are provided, some also engage in art-craft to prepare cards, wall hangings, paper bags, while still others engage in music, etc.

2. Visiting families of Prisoners: Another aspect of our service is to counsel the family members of the prisoners and support their children with their school expenses. Also, other welfare assistance for the families is given by availing the existing schemes of the Government.

3. Rehabilitation of released Prisoners: The released prisoners are provided opportunities either to begin their own enterprise or are given references to find jobs. Since their reformation is our priority, we focus on hand-holding them when they are released.

4. Visits to victims / families: The most difficult aspect of prison service is to help the victim and their families to overcome the pain and agony of loss of persons and possessions. They have to be assisted to search for peace as the law takes in course.
